What the certificate proves
The certificate is a snippet served from the product's own domain. Our checker fetches the live page and confirms the badge is present and points back at the listing it claims, which is something only whoever controls the domain and its deploy can arrange.
That is the whole point of the check: a screenshot, a logo or a claim in a form proves nothing, while a file served from the domain proves control of the domain. The badge is re-fetched every 30 days, so a listing keeps the bonus only while the proof is still live.
The rank bonus is +10, applied above vote-driven movement but below verified domain control itself. It is deliberately small: the certificate proves a site is willing to show where its ranking came from, not that the product is good.
Common questions
- What happens if I remove the badge?
- Nothing immediately, because the check runs on a 30-day cycle. At the next check the fetch fails, the listing drops off this page and loses the +10, and the product page stops showing the certificate date.
- Can I put the badge on a subdomain or a landing page?
- Yes, as long as it is the domain registered on the listing and the page is publicly reachable without a login. A badge behind auth, behind a paywall or on a different domain fails the check.
- Does the badge have to be visible to visitors?
- It has to be in the served HTML, and we ask that it stay visible. A hidden badge passes the fetch but defeats the reason RankCert issues one: telling a visitor the ranking can be checked.
