Frequently asked questions
How do Discord timestamps work?
Discord replaces <t:UNIX:FORMAT> with a date formatted in the reader's timezone and locale. Everyone sees the same moment in their own local time, which is why they beat typing "8pm EST".
Which format should I use for events?
Use :F for the full date and time plus :R for the countdown, side by side. The relative one updates live, so people can see "in 3 hours" without doing any maths.
Why does my timestamp show 1970?
You pasted milliseconds. Discord expects seconds - a 10-digit number. Divide a 13-digit value by 1000 and drop the decimals.
Do timestamps work in bot embeds and channel names?
They render in message content, embed descriptions and field values. They do not render in embed titles, author names, footers, channel names or nicknames.
Can I make a countdown in Discord?
Yes, :R is a live countdown. It shows "in 5 minutes" before the moment and "5 minutes ago" after it, and updates without anyone editing the message.
Does this send anything to Discord?
No. The codes are built in your browser from the date you pick. There is no login and no bot.
