Staply
VerifiedLive this weekA clearer space for your files
About
Staply is a native macOS app that organizes your files through on‑device indexing and natural search. It lets you filter by name, type, date, size, tags, or source, and supports OCR for PDFs and images. Duplicate files can be reviewed and removed, and files can be grouped into collections. All processing stays local, with no cloud uploads.
The case
Who it is for
Solo creators, designers, or anyone who frequently downloads files and needs a tidy, searchable workspace on macOS.
What is broken today
Finding a specific file on a Mac often requires opening Finder, navigating through many folders, and using a limited search that can miss relevant results. Users struggle with duplicate files, scattered downloads, and lack of a way to group related items without leaving Finder.
What it does about it
Staply is a native macOS app that indexes only folders you choose. It offers natural search with filters by name, type, date, size, tags, or source, and can extract text from PDFs and images. Duplicate files are highlighted for review, and files can be organized into collections. All processing is done locally on the Mac.
Why not the obvious alternative
Unlike Finder, Staply indexes only selected folders and provides readable filters for natural search. It shows duplicate files with content comparison, lets you review before deletion, and groups files into user‑defined collections. It also extracts text from PDFs and images with OCR, supports source‑based browsing (e.g., Gmail, Figma), and keeps all work on‑device so no data leaves your Mac.

Questions
- Does Staply replace Finder?
- Staply can handle everyday file work such as tabs, grid, list and column views, new folders, moving and copying files, and Finder tags. Finder remains available for system tasks, so you can use both side by side.
- Which Macs does it support?
- The current build targets Apple silicon Macs running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Intel support is not verified and broader device testing is still in progress.
- Do my files get uploaded?
- File processing runs locally. You choose the folders Staply can index. If a folder is synced by iCloud, Dropbox, or another provider, online‑only files are skipped during content scans.
