What is broken today
Before Appnary, independent Shopify merchants had to rely on expensive, feature heavy apps or build custom solutions to secure their stores. Many available tools were complex, had hidden usage tiers, or lacked basic security scanning for theme scripts and leaked keys. Merchants also struggled to sync catalog data between stores or restore backups without enterprise contracts.
What it does about it
Appnary’s Vigil scans a store’s published theme and app embeds, identifies external scripts, names the file or app behind each script, and flags any leaked API keys. The scan can be run manually or from an AI agent, providing quick insights into potential security risks. Future Sync will move catalog and order data between Shopify stores and later to the owner’s cloud or ERP, while Backup will allow full backup and restore of store data.
Why not the obvious alternative
Unlike generic security tools, Vigil not only detects risky scripts but also tells merchants exactly which theme file or app is responsible, and it flags leaked keys that could compromise the store. The AI driven scan option lets merchants run repeated checks without manual setup, and the public waitlist ranking gives transparency on adoption and priority.

- Appnary is currently developing Vigil, a security scanner for Shopify that scans theme and app embeds for risky scripts and leaked keys.
- Can I install Vigil?
- No. Vigil remains on a waitlist until the app is finished and approved by Shopify. Merchants are invited to the list once it is approved.
- What are the other waitlists for?
- Sync and Backup are future apps. Each has a public signup count, and after Vigil ships, the team will build the next app with more signups.
- What happened to Pixel Tracker?
- Pixel Tracker was stopped and never published; the app was deleted from the store.
